About GSH Financial

A finance function built for how businesses actually run today.

GSH Financial exists for a simple reason: most Canadian small and mid-sized businesses don't need a designated CPA firm's overhead, they need someone who reconciles their books correctly, files on time, and can tell them honestly whether the numbers support their next move.

What We Are

A modern, non-CPA finance practice

We are not a designated Chartered Professional Accountants firm, and we don't issue audit, review, or assurance opinions. What we are is a dedicated bookkeeping, payroll, tax preparation and financial advisory practice, built entirely on modern cloud software and flat-rate pricing.

What That Means For You

Lower overhead, same rigour

Forward-looking work, cash flow forecasting, KPI dashboards, growth planning, doesn't require a CPA designation to do well. It requires discipline, the right tools, and someone who looks at your numbers every month, not once a year. When you do need a signed compilation, review or audit report, we facilitate that final step through our network of independent, licensed CPAs, so you're never left without a compliant document a bank or investor will accept.

How We Work

Three commitments we don't bend on

01

Flat fees, quoted first

You see your tier and your price range before any work starts. No hourly clock, no surprise invoice line items.

02

Cloud-native, always

QuickBooks Online, Xero, Dext, Hubdoc, Wagepoint, your data lives in tools you can see into anytime, not a filing cabinet we control.

03

Straight answers

If a number is bad news, you hear it in the monthly call, not buried in a report three months after it mattered.

Where We Work From

Based in Winnipeg. Built for clients across Canada.

GSH Financial is headquartered in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and works entirely through cloud tools, meaning provincial sales tax complexity, multi-jurisdiction filings and remote onboarding aren't the exception for us, they're the default. Whether you're a solo consultant in Brandon or a multi-province e-commerce operator shipping from three warehouses, the engagement runs the same way: video calls, shared dashboards, and a bookkeeper who answers email.

What We've Built

We also built our own bookkeeping software.

GBooks Air is a free, browser-based bookkeeping app we built and own, for Canadian solopreneurs and micro-businesses who aren't ready for a paid engagement yet. No account, no credit card, nothing leaves your device unless you choose to share it. When a business outgrows it, that's exactly the moment our own team steps in.

Built The Same Way We Work

Modern tools, transparent pricing, no big-firm overhead, applied to a piece of software instead of a service engagement. It's the same philosophy, just free.

And The Full Platform, Too

GBooks Online is what we run our own books on.

Real bank feeds, a built-in CRM, job costing, multi-warehouse inventory and 13-week cash flow forecasting, in one Canadian-dollar-priced platform. We built it because we needed it ourselves first, then opened it up.

Four Tiers, $22 To $159 CAD/Mo

From a solo operator's first ledger to a multi-location business with jobs, inventory and a CRM, one platform grows with you instead of forcing a migration.

Client Outcomes

A Few Engagements, Told Straight

Details below are illustrative composites representative of the kind of work we actually do, shared this way to protect client confidentiality.

E-Commerce · Multi-Province Retailer

Found $38,000 In Uncollected Sales Tax Exposure Before It Became A CRA Problem

The situation: A growing online retailer had crossed the Saskatchewan and British Columbia PST registration thresholds without realizing it, direct sales had simply outgrown the original setup.

What we did: Ran a full multi-province nexus review, registered the business in both provinces, and rebuilt the sales tax remittance workflow so it flagged the next threshold automatically.

The result: Voluntary disclosure before any audit contact, and a sales tax process the owner no longer has to think about province by province.

SaaS Startup · Seed To Series A

Turned An 8-Month Runway Into A Credible 19-Month Plan

The situation: A pre-revenue SaaS founder was burning cash faster than the model showed, and couldn't tell investors with confidence when the next raise actually needed to close.

What we did: Brought in a fractional CFO to rebuild the 13-week cash flow forecast, filed a SR&ED claim the founder didn't know the business qualified for, and restructured burn around the actual product roadmap.

The result: A refundable SR&ED credit that extended runway on its own, plus a forecast the founder could defend line by line in front of a term sheet.

Manufacturing · Second-Generation Family Business

Protected Retained Earnings Years Before A Planned Exit

The situation: A profitable manufacturing business had accumulated significant retained earnings inside the operating company, exposed to the same operational risk as the business itself, and drifting toward failing the active asset test for the Lifetime Capital Gains Exemption.

What we did: Structured a holding company, swept excess cash out through a tax-free inter-corporate dividend, and rebuilt the corporate group ahead of a planned sale five to seven years out.

The result: Retained earnings moved out of operational risk, and the share structure back on track to qualify for the exemption when the sale eventually happens.

What Clients Actually Say

"We went from finding out about a filing deadline after it passed, to having a fractional CFO tell us about a cash gap six weeks before it would have mattered. That alone was worth switching."

— Aisha K., Owner, E-Commerce Retail, Winnipeg

"I didn't know SR&ED applied to what we were building until GSH asked the right questions. That credit alone paid for two years of the engagement."

— Marcus T., Founder, SaaS Startup, Toronto

"Payroll across three provinces used to eat an entire afternoon every two weeks. Now it takes ten minutes and I trust the number."

— Denise F., Operations Manager, Construction, Calgary

"They told us plainly that we weren't ready for a HoldCo yet, and exactly what balance sheet would make us ready. That kind of honesty is rare from an advisor."

— Robert L., President, Manufacturing, Brandon

"Our old bookkeeper called us once a quarter. GSH flagged a cash flow issue in week two of the engagement."

— Priya S., Co-Founder, Professional Services, Vancouver

"We use GBooks Air for the basics and have GSH on retainer for everything else. Best of both without paying for either twice."

— James O., Owner, Marketing Agency, Ottawa
