Service 05, The Individual Return
Personal Tax Preparation, T1 Returns
Every business owner we work with is also a person who has to file their own return every April. We prepare it properly, T4s, self-employment income, rental properties, investment income, and everything that touches your corporate T2, so your personal and business filings never contradict each other.
Why This Matters More Than It Seems
Your T1 and your T2 are not separate problems
If you own a corporation, decisions made on your personal return, how much salary versus dividends you took, whether you maxed out RRSP room, how a shareholder loan was treated, directly affect what your corporation owes, and vice versa. Filing them separately, with two people who never talk to each other, is how business owners routinely overpay. We prepare both under one roof, so the numbers are coordinated on purpose, not by accident.
Pricing Strategy
Flat fee, based on what's actually on the return
A T1 with a single T4 slip takes minutes. A T1 with rental properties, foreign assets and a corporation attached to it is a genuinely different job. We price it that way, three flat tiers, quoted before we start.
| Tier | What's On The Return | Flat Fee (CAD) |
|---|---|---|
| Simple T1 | Employment income (T4), standard credits and deductions, up to 2 dependents | $125 - $200 |
| Standard T1 | Self-employment income, rental property, investment income (T3/T5), multiple T-slips, or a shareholder of an active corporation | $300 - $550 |
| Complex T1 | Multiple rental properties, foreign income or assets (T1135), cross-border filing considerations, or a full household/family bundle | $600 - $1,200+ |
| Family and household bundles (spouse + dependents filed together) are quoted with a per-additional-return discount once we see the full picture. | ||

What We Actually Check
Beyond just filling in the boxes
- Every credit and deduction you're actually entitled to, medical, tuition, moving, home office, childcare, not just the ones on your slips.
- RRSP and TFSA contribution room, and whether this year's contribution timing actually helps you.
- Salary-versus-dividend treatment reconciled with your corporation's T2, if we prepare both.
- Prior-year carryforwards, capital losses, unused tuition, RRSP room, that a rushed once-a-year filer often misses.

If GSH Financial already prepares your corporate T2, your Standard or Complex T1 is quoted at the lower end of its range by default, we're not re-learning your file from scratch, we already have it.
